Young Doctor’s Leadership and TCI Coaching Bring Family Planning and Health Services to Remote Bihar Community
No matter how difficult a task may be, if you remain firm and focused, it will finally get done.”
Dr. Rupam adds- “On the FDS day, there was a considerable turnout of clients. From the FDS site, my staff contacted me to inform that the preparations were inadequate as no table and chairs were set up for the day. I immediately hopped on a bike with a member of my staff and rode over to the area. It took me some time to get there because there isn’t a good road and it’s in a hilly area, but once I did, I told the staff to sit beneath a tree and work from there. As soon as the mukhiya (head) of that area noticed us, he arranged tables and chairs for us. Our team offered basic health care and family planning services to clients. Since that time, residents of Lal Baba Talab have learned that the UPHC offers family planning services in addition to medical amenities.”
This experience reflects the practical, problem-solving mindset that TCI coaching aims to foster in local health leaders, empowering them to adapt proven approaches like FDS to real-world community needs. Thanks to Dr. Rupam’s diligence and commitment, Iqbal Nagar UPHC won the prize for best-performing UPHC in Gaya, demonstrating how locally driven leadership and targeted technical support can deliver lasting impact.
With the TCI India team’s coaching assistance, Dr. Rupam initiated fixed-day static (FDS) services in the UPHC and observed the advantages of having a day set aside for family planning services.
