How a Subdermal Implant Changed Hena’s Life
Choosing the implant was the best decision for me. For the first time, my husband and I feel mentally free from the fear of unplanned pregnancy. Now, without that constant worry, I can give my four children the resources and attention they deserve.”
Hena had been married for twelve years, and they had four children—a 12-year-old son and three young daughters. Her husband, a migrant worker, was often away and earned irregularly. Hena recalls, “Two of my pregnancies were unplanned, and raising four children felt overwhelming. We had no idea where to seek guidance.”
Their fear of another pregnancy grew, the situation turned critical when Hena, four months pregnant, took abortion pills without medical supervision. Severe complications followed, landing her in PMCH for an emergency abortion procedure. “I was terrified, I kept thinking who will take care of my children if something happens to me?”-says Hena.
During her recovery, trained PMCH providers and PSI India team counselled her on family planning options. Hena learned about the subdermal implant, a long-acting reversible method providing up to three years of protection. With trust and clarity, she chose the implant. She shares- “The implant gave me three years of protection without any hassle.” The experience also changed her husband’s perspective, he took up local work to support the family better.
Now healthier and free from fear, Hena plans to undergo tubal ligation once the implant’s duration ends, ensuring long-term stability for her children.
Through NCP, PSI India continues strengthening provider capacity and expanding access to modern contraceptives to empower women like Hena to control over their reproductive health and future.
