A New Beginning for Sujata: The Power of Counseling and Support
Mujhe saadhan ki jaankari nahi thi, mere pati ko bhi nahi thi. Lekin mai jaankari lena chahti thi par mere pati nahi. (I didn’t have any information about contraception, and neither did my husband. But I wanted to learn, whereas my husband was unwilling and against it.)”
Sujata’s turning point came when she met the UAQ program team and shared that she wanted to adopt a method, but her husband, Sunil, was strongly against family planning.
Understanding the situation, the UAQ team engaged Sunil in a patient and informative discussion. Initially hesitant, he opened up about his concerns: “We didn’t have the resources to afford it,” he admitted. When he learned that the Saral Labh Package covered all methods at no cost at private facilities, his stance shifted.
Couple leveraged the benefit of the Saral Labh Package, and Sujata received free contraceptive services from a private facility of her choice. “I chose the injectable (DMPA) because it helps maintain spacing between my children and also gives me the chance to meet a gynecologist every three months to discuss my health concerns. It was the best choice for me,” Sujata shares with relief.
Through initiatives like UAQ, PSI India is opening doors for couples like Sujata and Sunil, giving them access to information, affordable options, and the confidence to plan more secure future for their families.
PSI India through Universal Access to Quality (UAQ) Contraception project works to bridge gaps in access to family planning by offering the ‘Saral Labh Package’—a solution designed to provide quality, affordable contraceptive options from private facilities at no cost.
