PSI India with the support of HCL Foundation successfully implemented Swachh Uday program in the city of Lucknow, which has been acknowledged and featured in the first case study in India Sanitation Coalition’s annual Compendium. The programme has built a sustainable WASH environment by addressing the critical gaps in 3 major aspects - improved access to potable water supply systems, improved coverage of households either connected to sewer grid or Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) value chain and increased segregation of waste (dry and wet) at the household level.

New PSI India announced the Photo Quest initiative to encourage people working across issues across geographies to capture their work through the photographs. The contest invited entries under four categories of; 1) Services & Product, 2) Demand Generation, 3) Portrait of Sarita/family and 4) Enabling Environment.

The Challenge Initiative (TCI) India’s business unusual model puts local government on the driver's seat to implement high impact approaches (HIAs) within the system. TCI India created a pool of ‘master coaches’ at the city level by coaching and mentoring the ‘implementers’ in the system. The innovative concept of master coaches ensures the sustainability of HIAs when cities are graduated from TCI.

This is a high impact approach to ‘map and list’ urban slums and left out vulnerable population by reviewing various data sources. This mapping and listing exercise is critical for government to ensure health services, including family planning services in urban areas of India, and for community health workers to better understand area and population of their catchment area.
